Hurricane or Hell?As Hurricane Katrina made its way slowly toward the Gulf Coast last weekend, our famed President told everyone to pray. That's the kind of illogical and irrational statements that burn my ass. There was a Cat 5 hurricane coming our way and, instead of helping everyone evacuate, the President, the Governors, the state and local officials just sat by and watched as the storm approached in all its fury. Today, as thousands of Americans desperately called for help, our caring and compassionate president flew over the disaster area, not daring to venture more than 1700 feet above the masses who were stranded on their rooftops, packed like animals into the Superdome and Convention Center or who were wandering around in a state of shock. The wealthiest country in the world has been hit by a force much greater than any imagined and has exposed America's embarrassment - the huge numbers of poverty-stricken black people that inhabit the Deep South. | Katrina horrifies everyone who believes in a fair and just system in this country. President Bush has proven that he is incapable of leading in a time of crisis. Instead, he is driven by the greed and power of his office and his questionable religious beliefs. All we hear are excuses that bring back the memories of the 911 disaster. The government was warned well ahead of the likelihood of both disasters, but perhaps President Bush thought that a little prayer time would get him through. Not this time, and not any time.
If Americans think that they are immune from disaster because they are Christians, then they are as befuddled as President Bush and the Islamist fundamentalists. Perhaps Al Queda was praying, too. Rest assured that Mr. Bush's reign of terror is not over. His spirit is derived from the same source as the one that destroyed half of Europe during the 1940's. His incomprehensible actions in Iraq and his careless statements about other threats is leading this once proud country down the path of the Armageddon he's creating. I will continue to pick up the spirits of all those affected by this natural disaster - my estimate is over 100,000. This sad event was not an act of God, contrary to the religious extremists in this country, but a predictable result of our continued devastation of our planet. August 31, 2005 |
